Can budgies eat bananas?

Yes, in small amounts

Yes, in small amounts. Banana is safe for budgies but is one of the sweeter, starchier fruits, so offer only a thin slice now and then.

Portion
A thin slice about 5 mm (¼ in) thick, cut into quarters
How often
Once or twice a week
Sugar
12.2 g / 100 g

How to serve it

  1. Peel the banana and discard the skin
  2. Cut a thin slice and quarter it
  3. Serve fresh banana, not dried banana chips
  4. Remove leftovers within a couple of hours, as banana spoils quickly

Why

Risks. Banana is high in sugar and energy for such a small bird, and budgies are prone to obesity and the fatty tumors and fatty liver disease that go with it.

Benefits. Banana is soft and easy to eat, supplies potassium, and can help coax a budgie into trying fresh food.

Questions owners ask 2

Can budgies eat banana peel?

It is better not to. The peel is not known to be toxic, but it is tough and may carry pesticide residues, so offer only the flesh.

Are banana chips okay for budgies?

No. Banana chips are usually fried and often sweetened, adding fat and sugar a budgie does not need.
