Can budgies eat peas?

Yes — safe in normal portions

Yes. Fresh or thawed frozen peas are safe for budgies, and most enjoy nibbling or shelling them; offer a few as part of the day's vegetables.

Portion
Three to five peas, or a short piece of pod
How often
A few times a week
Sugar
5.7 g / 100 g

How to serve it

  1. Use fresh peas, or frozen peas thawed to room temperature
  2. Offer whole or halved peas, or young pods to explore
  3. Avoid canned peas, which often contain added salt
  4. Remove leftovers within a couple of hours

Why

Risks. Peas are starchier and more energy-dense than leafy or watery vegetables, so they should be one part of the mix. Canned peas may contain salt, which VCA advises against.

Benefits. Peas add plant protein and fiber, and pods make good foraging enrichment.
