Can budgies eat cucumber?

Yes — safe in normal portions

Yes. Cucumber is safe for budgies and refreshing, but it is mostly water, so treat it as a light extra alongside more nutritious vegetables.

Portion
A thin slice about 5 mm (¼ in) thick, or a few small cubes
How often
A few times a week
Sugar
1.7 g / 100 g

How to serve it

  1. Wash well; peeling is optional
  2. Slice thinly or cut into small cubes
  3. The soft seeds can be left in
  4. Remove leftovers within a couple of hours

Why

Risks. It has little nutritional value because it is mostly water, the same reason VCA gives for limiting iceberg lettuce and celery. Large amounts can make droppings watery.

Benefits. Cucumber is low in calories and many budgies enjoy nibbling it, especially in warm weather.

Questions owners ask 1
