Can budgies eat zucchini?
Yes. Zucchini (courgette) is a safe, low-sugar vegetable for budgies that can be offered regularly as part of a varied mix.
- Portion
- About a teaspoon (5 ml) grated or in small cubes, as part of the day's vegetables
- How often
- Daily or most days, rotated with other vegetables
- Sugar
- 2.5 g / 100 g
How to serve it
- Wash the skin well
- Grate or dice finely, skin on
- Serve raw or lightly steamed and cooled
- Remove leftovers within a couple of hours
Why
Risks. Zucchini is quite watery, so it is best paired with more nutrient-dense orange and dark green vegetables.
Benefits. It is low in sugar and fat, which suits a species prone to obesity, and its mild taste makes it a good starter vegetable.
