Can hamsters eat pineapple?

Yes, in small amounts

Yes, but only a tiny piece now and then. Fresh pineapple is not known to be toxic to hamsters, but it is acidic and sugary and may irritate the mouth or upset digestion.

Portion
A piece about 5 mm-1 cm (¼-⅜ in) across for a Syrian; a 5 mm (¼ in) crumb for a dwarf.
How often
Once a week at most; less often is better.
Dwarf hamsters
Campbell's, Winter White, their hybrids and Chinese hamsters are prone to diabetes. Give pineapple only rarely, as a 5 mm (¼ in) taste no more than once every two weeks, or skip fruit and use a low-sugar vegetable such as cucumber as a treat. Roborovskis are less studied, but they are tiny, so keep their portions just as small.
Sugar
9.9 g / 100 g

How to serve it

  1. Use fresh, ripe pineapple, not canned in syrup
  2. Remove the skin, eyes, leaves and tough core
  3. Cut a tiny piece
  4. Remove any uneaten piece, including from the hoard, within a few hours

Why

Risks. Pineapple is acidic and contains bromelain, an enzyme that can make mouths sore, and it is high in sugar. Unlike citrus, it is not specifically warned against by vets or UK charities, but stop if you notice soft droppings or pawing at the mouth.

Benefits. Adds variety; there is no particular nutritional need for it.
