Can cockatiels eat tofu?

Yes, in small amounts

Yes, in small amounts. Plain, unseasoned tofu is a safe occasional protein for cockatiels and contains no lactose. Keep it a small extra alongside pellets and vegetables.

How often
Once or twice a week
Fat

How to serve it

  1. Choose plain firm tofu, ideally calcium-set
  2. Rinse, pat dry and cut into small cubes or crumble
  3. Add no soy sauce, salt, oil or spices
  4. Discard leftovers within a couple of hours

Why

Risks. Tofu is not known to be harmful, but seasoned, fried or marinated versions contain salt, oil and flavourings such as garlic. It spoils quickly once out of the fridge.

Benefits. Tofu offers plant protein, and calcium-set tofu adds some calcium, a mineral cockatiels often lack.

Questions owners ask 1
