Can cockatiels eat oranges?

Yes, in small amounts

Yes, in small amounts. Cockatiels can eat peeled orange segments, but citrus is acidic and sweet, so keep it to an occasional small piece without peel or pips.

Portion
Half a segment, cut into pieces
How often
Once or twice a week
Sugar
9.4 g / 100 g

How to serve it

  1. Remove the peel, pith and pips
  2. Cut the segment into small pieces
  3. Offer fresh fruit only
  4. Take away leftovers after a couple of hours

Why

Risks. The peel and pips carry irritating oils and citric acid. The acidity and sugar of the flesh are reasons to keep portions small.

Benefits. A little citrus adds variety; oranges, tangerines and grapefruit appear on veterinary lists of suitable fruit for pet birds.

Questions owners ask 1

Can cockatiels drink orange juice?

It is best not to. Juice is concentrated sugar without the fiber, and juice added to water encourages bacterial growth.
