Can cockatiels eat cantaloupe?

Yes, in small amounts

Yes, in small amounts. Cantaloupe gives cockatiels beta-carotene, which supports vitamin A levels, but its sugar means it should be an occasional fruit.

Portion
Two or three cubes about 1.5 cm (⅝ in) across
How often
2–3 times a week
Sugar
7.9 g / 100 g

How to serve it

  1. Wash the rind well first
  2. Remove rind and seeds
  3. Cut the flesh into cubes
  4. Clear away leftovers after a couple of hours

Why

Risks. Like other melon it is sweet and watery, so large amounts add sugar and little else.

Benefits. Orange-fleshed melon is listed by VCA and Merck as a good source of vitamin A precursors; vitamin A deficiency is common in seed-fed birds.

Questions owners ask 1

Is cantaloupe better than watermelon for cockatiels?

Nutritionally, yes. Cantaloupe's orange flesh carries far more beta-carotene, though both should be occasional treats.
