Can hamsters eat parsley?

Yes, in small amounts

Yes, in small amounts. PDSA lists parsley among occasional treats for hamsters. A sprig now and then is plenty.

Portion
One small sprig (2–3 leaves) for a Syrian; a single leaf for a dwarf.
How often
Once or twice a week
Sugar
0.9 g / 100 g

How to serve it

  1. Wash well
  2. Use fresh curly or flat-leaf parsley
  3. Remove thick stems
  4. Remove any uneaten parsley the next day

Why

Risks. Parsley is not toxic to hamsters. It is more concentrated in calcium and oxalate than lettuce-type greens, which is one reason to keep it an occasional herb rather than a staple. Large amounts of any herb can upset digestion.

Benefits. An aromatic herb that adds variety and scent for foraging; contains vitamins A, C and K.

Questions owners ask 2

Is parsley toxic to hamsters?

No. PDSA lists it as a safe occasional treat. The reason to limit it is to keep the diet varied and avoid overdoing calcium- and oxalate-rich greens.

Can hamsters eat parsley stems?

Thin stems are fine in small amounts. Thick, woody stems are best removed.
