Can cockatiels eat pumpkin seeds?

Yes, in small amounts

Yes, in small amounts. Plain raw pumpkin seeds are a safe occasional treat for cockatiels, but they are fatty, so one or two at a time is enough.

How to serve it

  1. Use raw, unsalted seeds or plain pepitas
  2. Rinse and dry seeds taken from a fresh pumpkin
  3. Skip roasted, salted or spiced seeds
  4. Offer as a reward or hide in a foraging toy

Why

Risks. High fat content adds calories quickly, and cockatiels are prone to obesity, fatty liver and lipomas. Salted snack seeds add sodium, and damp seeds can grow mould.

Benefits. Pumpkin seeds provide protein, zinc and magnesium, and cracking them gives cockatiels something to work on.

Questions owners ask 1
